- "I'll show you the Wangan conqueror still runs, Nobody can touch the Blackbird."
- ―Tatsuya Shima
The Blackbird (Japanese: ブラックバード Romaji: Burakkubādo) is the name given to Tatsuya Shima's car in the Wangan Midnight franchise.
About[]
In the manga/anime, it is based on an early 1986 Porsche 911 Turbo 3.3 (930) later to an Porsche 911 Turbo 3.6 (964)
In the games, it is based on multiple cars:
- In the PS2 version of Wangan Midnight, it was based on RUF RCT, a RUF sports car with less power than CTR despite having bigger engine (3.6 liters instead of 3.3 liters)
- In the PS3 version of Wangan Midnight, there are 5 versions of the Blackbird; the first being a RUF CTR, and the rest being differently tuned RUF RCTs.
- In the English/international releases of WMMT1-3DX+, it was based on a Nissan Z33 Fairlady Z (known globally as the 350Z). It was completely stock in 1-2, and equipped with a NISMO S-Tune GT (Aero Set C) in 3-3DX+, to make it look based on its Porsche counterpart.
- In the Japanese release of WMMT1-3DX+, it was based on Gemballa 3.8 RS (itself based on a Porsche 911 Carrera RS 3.8) and only seen in Japanese version of the game.
- In WMMT 4-5DX+, it was based on RUF CTR "Yellowbird", a sports car made by RUF, based on "unstamped" Porsche 911 bodies and featuring a highly tuned 3.4 liter flat-six engine. The Blackbird in later chapters would be based on the RUF RCT.
- In WMMT 6-6RR, it is based on the Porsche 911 Turbo S (930). Later chapters change the Blackbird to be based on a 911 Turbo 3.6 (964).
In all iterations, the car is tuned to 700 hp and features gold-colored RAYS GTU (WMMT1-5DX+)/BBS LM (WMMT6-Current) wheels. The Porsche-based cars originally ran 993-spec aero parts but later changed into race-inspired aero kits, while the Fairlady Z-based car ran on Nismo S-Tune aero. In the Live Action movie of Wangan Midnight, it featured Work Meister S1 3-Piece Rims.

Trivia[]
- The Blackbird is derived from the Cold War airplane, the SR-71 Blackbird, hence why they're both vehicles colored black and also fast. Tatsuya claimed he made his own stickers but only used them for one day because he thought that the same element of speed also existed on the Metro Highway, which was proven true upon encountering the Devil Z.
- Starting in Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune 6 - onward. The players cannot recreate Blackbird because it has different aero.
- Devil Z and Blackbird are unplayable cars. Because, it has different car name such as Nissan Fairlady Z (S30) and Porsche 911 Turbo 3.6 (964).
