The best car for wangan racing[]
Europe, America and Japan, probably the first three countries of the world you think of when you hear the question "where do the best cars come from?" It really isn't hard to see why either. America has their V8 monsters built by the big 3, Chrysler, GM and Ford, and believe me, they can get absolutely stupid horsepower numbers alongside being great for straight-line speed and acceleration. We call the "straight-line speed" drag racing, but that's enough on the american side of things, what does Europe offer? With the likes Germany's BMW, Britain's Mclarens, Aston Martins, and the two rivals Italy, Ferrari and Lamborghini, alongside Porsche and RUF in germany, the birthplace of one of the most iconic cars in wangan history, the Blackbird. Lastly, we have Japan, the grand gem to many people looking for an iconic car to import, admittedly myself included... but why? There's quite a few legends from Japan to look at, the mk3 (A70) and mk4 (A80) supras, the AE86 of the 80's, the skylines starting with the R31 skyline GTS to the R34 GTR, the old Lancer EVOs and WRX STIs of the 90's, there's plenty more to talk about with Japan, even the accords and civics like the EG6 and EK9 can be true monsters if tuned properly. So, if we're talking about the best cars for the wangan, what SHOULD be considered? We can make some ground rules, and split this into 3 topics, this is all entirely based on opinion, but feel free to add your own ideas and thoughts in the comments.
Rules[]
- 1: No hypercars, this will include various cars like the Porsche 918 spyder, the Lamborghini Sian alongside the 2022 Countach, the Mclaren F1 and other companies like Bugatti, Koenigsegg and SSC, this is for a couple reasons, mainly to keep some of the more overpowered cars like the Koenigsegg Jesko out of the list, as anything with over 840 horsepower would probably be considered too fast. The other reason is to narrow down the car list SIGNIFICANTLY, because it'd take me a year without reducing the list to write this.
- 2:The max horsepower limit (as of now with WMMT6RR) is going to be 840 horsepower, nothing above that, we're also assuming all cars are tuned to max horsepower, but there will also be handling thrown into the equation, so don't worry.
- 3: Only a few cars will be considered, though there will be at least one for each drivetrain if possible, so one FWD car like the Honda Civic, one RWD car like the Dodge Challenger and one AWD car like the Audi RS2 Avant.
Criteria for each car[]
- Handling: The car's handling should be considered into the equation, the drivetrain can affect this like an FWD car's understeer or a RWD car and their proneness to oversteering if not careful.
- Top Speed: While the max speed for most (if not all cars) in WMMT6RR is around 345kph, or 214mph in freedom units, all cars will be considered with this top speed in mind, yes, that includes cars that are slightly faster like the Lamborghini Aventador, which has a top speed of 217mph or 350kph in real life, which admittedly should be faster, but we're going off by game logic here.
- Aero: The last catagory, each car has their own aerodynamics, which includes downforce, both play a big factor into the other two criterias, downforce improves handling and aero can improve acceleration/top speed alongside the tuning of each car, though that's been established in rule 2.
That covers the basics, let's go ahead and take a dive, up first is America, the home of high-powered muscle cars and... well, massive boats on wheels as some say.
America[]
The first couple of cars come from america, and there is a surprisingly low amount of AWD cars, let alone FWD cars, that being said there's a few AWD cars like the V6 Chrysler 300, which is making 292 horsepower, this will be our contender for the AWD catagory, the RWD layout car from america is going to consist of two cars, the Chevrolet Corvette (Z06 package specifically) and the ford mustang GT500. Right off the bat, the Corvette has the fastest 0-60 stock at a staggering 2.6 seconds with only 670 horsepower, but only weighing 3,774 pounds, if this is tuned to the max, we can presume with the right upgrades this can be brought down to at least a 0-60 of 2.4 seconds, what about the Shelby? The GT500 makes 760 horsepower, a good start but it is also very heavy compared to the Z06 at a heavy 4,182 pounds but can still accelerate from 0-60 in 3.3 seconds, with tuning up to 840 horsepower we can probably assume it'd go down to a 0-60 of 3.0 at least, so far the Z06 seems to be the winner. The chrysler 300 AWD bone-stock is awful, with a 0-60 of eventually (6.5 seconds) and weighing even more than the GT500 at 4,267 pounds, so is it even worth using? Actually, it can be at a full power tune, with 840 horsepower, the 0-60 would likely be reduced significantly down to let's say 2.8 seconds. If we consider aero and handling though, the Chrysler likely would not last too long due to how big it is, at least in the aero department, handling it would likely have a chance, but it's safe to say the Z06 takes all 3 catagories, with the GT500 a close second and the 300 being not far behind.
Europe[]
In the land of Europe, we have plenty of choices for AWD and RWD, and a few FWD cars, for this we're going to use some older though still equally great cars, for AWD we'll use the Audi R8 first gen, for RWD it's the Alfa Romeo 4C (the coupe specifically) and the FWD catagory goes to the Peugeot 205.
