Wangan Midnight is an anime adaptation based on the Japanese manga series of same name. The series aired from June 15, 2007 to September 13, 2008. The anime adaptation was announced at the 2007 Tokyo Anime Fair and aired on the pay-per-view channels Animax and SKY Perfect TV!. The series was produced by OB Planning, A.C.G.T., and Pastel under the direction of Tsuneo Tominaga. Legendary Japanese racer Keiichi Tsuchiya was the Editorial Supervisor for this series.
The series has never received a release outside of Japan, and therefore there are no official English translations.

- The Akasaka Straight arc is skipped for unknown reasons, even Masaki not appears in anime although a yellow RX-7 briefly appears inside Speed Factory RGO garage in Epsode 21. Tokuyoshi Kawashima, who voice Masaki in video games voices Koichi Aizawa in anime series.
- Aside Masaki, some characters does not appear in anime was Tatsuya and Oki.
- The anime has a few differences from its original manga form. Some differences include;
- Eriko dumping the Z takes place before the third battle between Devil Z and Blackbird in the manga, but in the anime, it takes place before she goes to London to study.
- Eriko doesn't get involved in the third battle between the Devil Z and Blackbird in the anime, as she had gone to London prior to it.
- The Devil Z's crash into a truck is never fully shown as it cuts to Hiramoto's introduction, but a brief part of the crash is shown in a flashback.
- What happened with Ishida after the crash is completely missing.
