Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune 3DX is the first update of Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune 3. The game was based on the Wangan Midnight manga and it is the fourth game in the Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune series and the sixth entry in the Wangan Midnight arcade series.

New Features/Changes[]

New features includes the additional of a new course, Nagoya Speed Ring area, 4 new cars (Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X, Mazda Roadster (NCEC), Nissan Fairlady Z/370Z (Z34) and Subaru Impreza WRX STi (GRB)), the extension of Story Mode up to 100 stages, and max HP up to 825.
Version 1 and version 2 data cards can't be transferred over, only version 3 data cards can be transferred over.
There is an additional "DX" printed on top right of the data card to differentiate between MT3 and 3DX cards
Official car in Time Attack mode is removed.
Shaded MT3 cards are unshaded when transferred over, giving players a chance to finish the uncompleted stages in story mode undefeated without having to start over from stage 1.
In version C. of MT3DX, if you get defeated anywhere in story mode, you will be shaded regardless of unshaded status.
Hakone outbound and inbound are combined into one course in time attack mode
Several Fauna species are used as backgrounds for various amounts of Outrun Stars. The list below is a rough indication of the image:

- 2000 ~ 3999 - Brumby/Horse
- 4000 ~ 6999 - Scorpion
- 7000 ~ 9999 - Wolf

- 20000 ~ 29999 - Tiger
- 30000 ~ 39999 - Tarantula
- 40000 ~ 69999 - Dragon (Chinese)

Changes to the Discarded tuning card system
- Cards now become Present Cards after 60 plays, instead of directly turning into Discarded cards.
- Discarded tuning cards can now only be used once instead of twice, and the Body Color now stays intact as the originally chosen factory color as the card that the discard came from.

Story Mode[]

3 new chapter has been added to Story mode in this version, making totally 100 chapter.:

Ishida Arc (81-85)
Zero Fighter on the Ground (86-90)
FD Master (91-100)
A special story mode after complete first 100 story called 'Tuner', replacing 'The Return of Devil Z' arc.
Also a secret special stage where player must race special opponent (labelled as ?) instead race against Wangan Midnight main character, Akio Asakura, Reina Akikawa, and Tatsuya Shima:
- In Japanese version, the stage name is called 'Wangan Taiko-night (Japanese: 湾岸太鼓ナイト, Wangan Taikonaito, A play on Wangan Midnight), the player must race characters from Taiko no Tatsujin; Don Wada (Corolla), Kabuki Kid (Hiace) and Donko (R2).
- In Export version, the player must race characters from Pacman series; Pac-Man (Corolla), Clyde (HiAce), and Pinky (R2).

All tracks from Maximum Tune 3 are reused with one new song, "Enjoy The Process".

Region Different Changes[]

Yoshiaki Ishida drive a Gemballa Avalanche in Japanese version, however due licensing the Gemballa cars outside of Japan, the car changed with a Subaru Alcyone in Export release.

Trivia[]

Some Story Mode were changed, in the case:
- The Stage Story 6, the race is take place at C1 Outward where Reina and Ishida as rival car is changed with newly Nagoya Highspeed Ring.
- The Stage Story 33, The Feeling Team drove a white R32 is changed with Mazda Roadster as separated car.
- The Stage Story 41, the race is take place at New Belt CCW where Tatsuya and Jun as rival car is changed with newly Nagoya Highspeed Ring.
- The Stage Story 48, Eiji Kamiya drove a pink Silvia in MT3 is replaced with a newly pink Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X.
- The Stage Story 51, the race is take place at Wangan Westbound where Kouichi Kijima and Reina as rival car is changed with newly Nagoya Highspeed Ring.
The first half Zero Fighter on the Ground arc is ommitted due some location are not featured until Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune 6. The same reason, Yuji Kishida drive an MX-5 NCEC instead S2000 unlike in manga. The reason was due Honda is unvalaible in series until later appeared in Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune 5DX+. In Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune 6, Yuji drive an S2000 in second half Zero Fighter on the Ground arc.
The FD Master arc is remained same in Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune 6 (with exception some chapter are different) as Shinji Ogishima drive an Pure Wihite RX-7, while in WMMT6, his RX-7 colour is Innocent Blue Mica.
With Story Mode remained same in next update, this will be last to feature remaining story arc of Garage ACE, Legendary F1 Turbine, Zero Fighter on the Ground, and FD Master until return in Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune 6 as reduced to 60 from WMMT4 until 5DX+ due reworking of Story Mode and the last game to feature non Wangan Midnight character (Pacman/Don Wada) due licensing.
