Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune 5 (also known as Maximum Tune 5 in North America, or simply Maxi 5 or Maxitune 5) is an arcade racing video game developed and published by Namco and based on the Wangan Midnight manga. It is the seventh installment in the Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune series This is also the first game in the Wangan Midnight series to be officially relased in North America since Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune 3DX+. Just like Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune 4 in North America, this is the first game in the Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune series to be skipped in Mainland China until the next update of Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune 5.

Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune 5 North American Location Test

• Actually, before official release as Maximum Tune 5 in 2017, Bandai Namco US held a temporary location test in 3 different US location however the cabinet was gone after location test was ended.
• Despite use International version cabinet of MT5, this version cannot battle against other region as they using an local server.
• The Banapassport supporting in the location test but only 5 car can be collected in one card.
• The card transfer in terminal was omitted, completely closed as they disabled their data from 3DX+ as MT4 never launched in US, forcing player start from scratch
• This was the last seen to feature Celsior and Aristo, along with Taxi variants before competely removed.
• This was likely the last game using Wangan Midnight name in North American before released in 2017 as Maximum Tune 5 without using Wangan Midnight name.

Different between WMMT5 Japan/Asia version and WWMT 5 North American version

• The North American version of this game was vastly different from Asia and Japan regions.
  • Due to the lack of Wangan Midnight name in the title, all of the previous games' soundtrack whose logos represented in the game were edited and given retronyms. All the previous Maximum Tune games were edited to remove the "Wangan Midnight" part of the title, with the exception of Wangan Midnight R, which was simply renamed to just Midnight R in the style of edited Maximum Tune logos (generic white text).
  • In opposite of Gemballa vehicles being removed from the International versions of Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune until 3DX+, Toyota Celsior and Aristo were removed and as a result, Gen Sasaki and Mrs. Sasaki's car were replaced by Crown Athlete and Chaser Tourer V respectively.
  • The card transfer feature from the Asian versions of 5 is omitted or removed as Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune 4 was never launched outside of Asia and Japan, forcing players from 3DX+ to start all over again from scratch. Therefore, the Namco Meter from Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune 3 and Special Meter from Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune 3 DX/DX+ was omitted in North American version of Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune 5.

Trivia

• The Audi and Dodge are new brand manufacturer but are seen only in International version of WMMT5 before added in Japan version of 5DX. The Audi and Dodge also cannot mounted dress-up.
• Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune 5 is released in Japan to coincide with 10th anniversary of Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune series.
• The different between Japan and International verison of WMMT5 is HiAce. In WMMT5 Japanese version, the traffic car is a New Toyota Hiace Van, otherwhise the international version is using older Hiace as traffic car.
