Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune 6 (also known as Maximum Tune 6, or simply Maxi 6) is an arcade racing video game developed and published by Namco and based on the Wangan Midnight manga. It is the tenth game in the Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune arcade game series. This version features a new manufacturer, Porsche (replacing RUF from MT4 - 5DX+), making its first appearance in the series. Midnight Maximum Tune 6 also has new additional content like the new Ghost Battle Mode (up to 3 ghost cars), an expanded story mode similar to MT3DX+ (100 Story), and the new wheel/rim manufacturer BBS. Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune 6 released in Japan on (12 July 2018) while Asia(others)/Indonesia versions launched in 2 July 2019.

The service and online feature of WMMT6 in Asia/Oceania was closed on September 28, 2022 due favor of ongoing Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune 6 RR.

Additionally, 4 of 5 cars were previously not available or seen in Asian/Indonesian version of WMMT5DX/WMMT5DX+ were avalaible in Asian version of WMMT6. The 5 Additional cars can only be obtained in Terminal Scratch through the Wangan Terminal.

Change Cars

The cars from RUF are replaced by Porsche. The Porsche appearance in WMMT6 came after the EA and Porsche exclusive contract ended in 2016.

Difference between Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune 5DX+ and Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune 6

Aside New features, several Maximum Tune 5DX+ features has been updated as well some feature from 5DX+ has been changed, ommited or removed in Maximum Tune 6 such as:

• Additional 4 Story mode arc were previously cut during WWMT4-5DX+. The story mode using same style from WMMT3DX/3DX+.
• All versions can be transferred a RUF car (CTR Yellowbird, RCT, RGT/RT35 and RK Coupe) turned into Porsche car (911 Turbo S 930, Turbo 3.6 964, Turbo S 991 and 718 Cayman S).
• With Porsche become available, Tatsuya Shima's Blackbird now use Porsche 991 Turbo S (930)/Porsche 911 Turbo 3.6 (964).
• Story mode Increased 100 Chapters only (same as style of WMMT3DX-3DX+)
• 1 Story mode stage from 5DX+ like Feeling Team was removed and replaced by Kijima borrow Hayashi's RX7 GT-X (FC3S) in Mt Taikan.
• All stickers in WMMT6 were removed.
• Japan Challenge removed.
• 5DX+ Dress-Up parts, Maxi G and Maxi Shop were removed
• Indonesian players cannot challenge Asian/Oceania players in WMMT4-5DX+. and now Indonesian server was added to Asian/Oceania server.
• Mini-Map and Terminal Scratch were added in Asian/Oceania version.
• Nissan GT-R (R35) with "STEP" was replaced by "HP" display.

Wangan Terminal Scratch

Alongside 5 new car, this feature contained 7 secret cars were can be obtained by cheat code with FULLY TUNED instead actual stock HP. Starting from WMMT6, the previous Toyota Hiace (KZH100G) is replaced with a Toyota Hiace Van (H200). The feature was first introduced in Japanese version of Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune 5DX until Terminal Scratch is featured on Asian version of Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune 6.

Shutdown

On August 26th 2022, it was announced that Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune 6 is to shut down on September 28th 2022 at 11:00 AM JST. The players from Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune 5DX+ who don't transfer from WMMT5DX+ to WMMT6 and all car datas were removed and unable to recovery, caused the players start from beginning when register the first car in WMMT6RR on their banapassport.

Trivia

• Despite the game released in 2018, Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune 6 is served to commorate 15th Anniversary of Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune series in 2019.
• The Honda Integra Type R and Porsche 928 GT are 2 unplayable cars featured in Story mode. Both are driven by Tomoya and Masaki. It is possible that both cars will become playable in future MT6 updates.
  • The Porsche 928 GT later became available for driving in the Japanese version of MT6 in 2019 and the Asia version in 2020, but did not become playable in Indonesian units until the WMMT6RR release.
• The song Burning Away was used as the opening movie for Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune 6.
• The scene where Reina departs (The winning cutscene at the end of Chapter 98 in story mode) is similar to the ending scene of the film Fast and Furious 7, as well as the music video for Wiz Khalifa's "See You Again". ([1])
• The Feeling Team and their Initial D homage cars were removed and replaced by Chapter 55: Reason Kijima borrow RX- 7 FC3S from Hayashi at Mt. Taikan.
• All stickers and 5DX+ Dress-Up parts were removed.
• Two game elements that were previously unused such as the airport bus and the RGO Garage are now used in WMMT6.
• This release marks the first time ever that India receives Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune 6 machine as the previous version (WMMT5DX+) was never released, similar to the North American version of Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune 5 and the Chinese version of Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune 5DX. This was the reason of the omitted transfer card. Unfortunately, both India and Sri Lanka location in the WMMT6 site has been removed for unknown reason and the machines are also gone.
• Also, Indonesia has joined and merged to the Asia server in Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune 6 as the previous versions (WMMT4-5DX+) was only for Indonesia exclusive server.
• Megumi Hiramoto's letter near the end of Chapter 15 was fully translated in English unlike in previous games where the letter was untranslated in the Asian releases.
• This series is the first time in the Asian region that uses Namco hardware that is Windows-based than ES1 (Linux-based) from Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune 4 until 5DX+.
  • Because of this, this is the first time in the Asian region to have mini-map feature and the driving physics from the Japanese version of Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune 5.
